Every year Winchester Tourist Guides share their own enthusiasms in a varied programme of Special Guided Tours. From history to literature, from railways to Christmas, there is something to interest everyone whether visiting or local.

By special permission of the Mayor - an opportunity to visit his official residence which dates from Georgian times and before.
Accessibility: Ground floor only for wheelchair users - 2 storey building. Shallow steps on flight of stairs.
Tickets: £6 (includes donation to the Mayor's Charities). Group limited to 15. No under 12's.

A guided walk exploring the route of Winchester's 'other' railway, the old Didcot, Newbury and Southampton line, and the history of the Soke. Includes a chance to go inside the disused Chesil Railway tunnel.
Accessibility: The walking is rough, involving steep steps and slopes, and stout footwear is advised.

There is a special tour on 12 December which will finish at Abbey House, the Mayor's official residence where you will be invited to take a glass of mulled wine.

Introduce your children to Winchester's amazing history and have some fun along the way! These tours are especially suitable for children aged 7 and over. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

In response to demand we are introducing some additional Ghost tours this year during the dark evenings in March, followed by even more tours at Halloween. It will be a veritable feast of ghosts and other ghastly goings-on!

In celebration of 'Countryside 2011', join one of our guides on walks which will explore both the wild sides of Winchester and some of its hidden 'gems'. And in September there's another opportunity to take the walk that inspired John Keats to write 'Ode to Autumn'.

In this Olympic year when we will expect to be dazzled by the sporting feats of the present generation, take a tour of Sporting Winchester and find out where its citizens took pleasure in athlectic pursuits, hear about some famous local sportsmen, as well as some 'firsts' in the sporting pantheon!

City Walking Tours take place throughout the year, departing from the Tourist Information Centre (see map), and lasting between 1 and 1½ hours.
Accessibility: All City Walking Tours are accessible to wheelchair users.
Tickets: £5 for adults with accompanying children FREE.
Note: Tickets can be purchased on the day from the Tourist Information Centre.
There are three different city walking tours (see table below for dates and times):
Kings and Castles takes you around the centre of Winchester, passing the cathedral, the Great Hall and the site of King Charles II's royal palace.
Mitres and Mortarboards follows the River Itchen before passing Wolvesey Castle, Winchester College, Jane Austen's House and the Cathedral Close.
City Highlights focuses on the centre of Winchester. In winter this tour takes into account the interests of the group and the prevailing weather conditions.
FREE tours will be available on 17 March and 8 September.
